RSS chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday hailed the government’s decision of scraping Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir saying it is in the full interest of the country.
Speaking on the occasion of Vijayadashmi at the Reshimbag Ground here, Mr Bhagwat said, "Respecting the public sentiments, in realizing the public expectations and the courage to fulfill their wishes in the interest of the country is in the chosen regime again and this has been proved by the government's work of nullifying Article 370."
Mr Bhagwat went on praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other political parties who upheld the public sentiments in Parliament for the work they have done towards abrogating Article 370.
"There are some questions that we have to answer and some problems that we have to diagnose and solve," he said. Criticising naysayers, the RSS chief said, "A developed Bharat creates fear in the minds of vested interests. Only people with vested interests don't want Bharat to be strong and vibrant."
"It is essential to be alert in identifying plots of vested interest and counter them on intellectual and social planes. Alertness is a constant necessity," he added.
Mr Bhagwat also highlighted the need for increased vigilance along coastal borders, especially islands.
"Guards, checkposts on land borders and surveillance along maritime border, especially islands, have to be increased," he said.
Voicing his displeasure over several incidents of mob lynching in the country, Mr Bhagwat said it is not a part of Indian ethos and that people of the country trust in brotherhood.
"Lynching is not the word from Indian ethos, its origin is from a story in a separate religious text. We Indians trust in brotherhood. Don't impose such terms on Indians," he said, adding that lynching itself is a western construct and one shouldn't use it in the Indian context to defame the country.
Mr Bhagwat added that the incidents of mob lynching are not one-sided and "both communities" are engaged in allegations and counter-allegations.
"Some incidents have been done deliberately, some have been published in a mala fide manner. These incidents are not the tradition of our country nor are these in accordance with our constitution and these have been never endorsed by RSS," he said.
On the contrary, RSS has always been against such incidents and have always stood against such incidents. Swayamsevaks are continuously striving to stop such incidents," Mr Bhagwat said.
HCL founder Shiv Nadar was the chief guest for this year's event. Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Gen V K Singh (retd) and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were among those present at the event.
Mr Bhagwat urged citizens to create harmony and that everyone should live within confines of law. 'Swayamsevaks are brought up with that sanskar,' he added.
He said in the past few years, there has been transformation in 'direction of thought process of Bharat'.
'There are many people in the world and in Bharat as well, who don’t want this. A developed Bharat creates fear in the minds of vested interests such forces will also not want Bharat to be strong and vibrant,' the RSS chief said.
Even well-meaning policies, statements from persons in government and administration were being misused to benefit nefarious designs by vested interests, he said.
'We must be alert in identifying these plots and counter them on intellectual and social levels,' he said.
He further said India’s borders were now safer than ever and more focus was needed on coastal security.
'The number of guards and check-posts on land borders and surveillance along the maritime border, especially on islands, have to be increased,' he said.
On concerns over the economic sector, Dr Bhagwat said the slowing down of world economy has left its impact everywhere and the government has taken initiatives to tide over the situation in the last one-and-a-half months. 'Our society is entrepreneurial and will overcome these challenges,” he added.
