India’s defence exports to cross over Rs 35,000 cr in 2024: Gen Rawat

Army chief Bipin Rawat on Friday said the country's defence exports is likely to cross over Rs 35,000 crore in the next five years as the defence industry becomes more export-oriented.
Speaking at the conclave of Defence Attaches here, General Rawat said our efforts to make Defence industries more export oriented have been giving results and gradually it will cross over to Rs 35,000 crores.
He further said it is disappointing that after 70 years of independence, we are still importing our defence requirements but the scenario has changed in recent years, the DRDO is manufacturing and supplying as per our need.
General Rawat also said India is committed for peace and stability in the neighbouring countries and the Army along with the friendly nations are ready to take any security challenge.
Addressing the gathering, the Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh stressed on the need for mutual co-operation among various countries necessary to maintain peace in the Indian Ocean region. He also said mutual co operation is required in dealing with pirates in the region.
