The government is insisting on early disposal of civil and criminal cases that are pending since 10 years or and above, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
Replying to a question during the Question Hour, Mr Prasad said that he will write to all the Chief Justices of the High Courts for early disposal of the pending cases of 10 years and above.
He further said the government can only provide the infrastructure, however, it cannot interfere in the proceedings of the court.
Mr Prasad said there were several reasons for the delay in disposal of the pending matters in the courts.
He said the ministry does not give a list of the prison inmates based on caste and creed, but it is writing letters to different High Courts, to protect the interest and rights of those trapped in such cases.
If a man completes 50 per cent of his sentence time and a woman completes 25 per cent of their term, the court may decide to release him/her, the Minister added.
