The Congress on Thursday said that people in the North East, especially Guwahati are strongly opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), and they are automatically jumping into this movement, but the government is unable to understand their anger.
Congress spokesperson Gaurav Gogoi told reporters in the Parliament House complex that while preparing the CAB, the government did not take the North Eastern states into confidence, so people are angry. No political party is involved in the movement against this bill in these states, but it is a spontaneous protest, thousands of people are leaving their homes and joining it.
'Protests are taking place in an unprecedented manner in the North East and especially in Guwahati. Assam's situation has worsened. Demonstrations are going on continuously in Guwahati.Such anger is seen in people for the first time after two-and-a-half decades,' he said.
Mr Gogoi said that the people of Guwahati are coming on the streets and opposing CAB.
