Iran’s Ambassador to Britain Hamid Baeidinejad said on Tuesday that the waivers that the US granted to avoid Iranian oil sanctions prove that America has failed to create a consensus.
In an exclusive interview , Baeidinejad told Amanpour that, “We see a big contradiction in the US policy toward Iran, as it is seeking to hold dialogue with it at one hand and sets impossible conditions for talks on the other.”
Deploring threatening language of the US officials against Iran, he said, “US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that if Iran wants to feed its people, it should agree with the US. Such a language is not understandable.”
Commenting on the impacts of the US sanctions against Iran, Baeidinejad said, “They launched a psychological war to frighten our nation.”
“We have gradually found ways to ensure export of our oil,” he said.
“We have a lot of alternatives and experience from the past. The difference between this round of the sanctions and those before is that this time countries are not ready to comply with US demands,” he said.
Asked about exit of companies from Iran after reinstatement of the sanctions, the envoy said, “We are not happy big companies are leaving Iran under US pressures, but at the same time, medium- and small-sized companies have voiced their readiness to work with Iran.”
“We have close contact with the European Union in this respect to ensure the medium- and small-sized companies’ could continue work with Iran,” he said.
Elsewhere in the interview, CNN released a section of Pompeo’s speech listing the 12 conditions for Iran to comply with, Baeidinejad described them allegations and baseless.
This shows that the US has not a stable policy and sets conditions which all know Iran will not act accordingly.
