Iran has been standing by the Syrian nation and government strongly in its counterterrorism drive, said deputy foreign minister Faysal al-Mikdad on Monday.
In a meeting with senior assistant to Iran's foreign minister Hossein Jaberi-Ansari, he added, “Iran provided Syria with all types of supports during the nearly eight-year war.”
“Syria is trying to reestablish peace and security in the county with the help of its allies,” he said.
“We are studying the best mechanisms for achieving a solution helping end the crisis during meetings between Iranian and Syrian officials,” he said.
Condemning anti-Iran sanctions, he further noted that his country has been standing by the country against the oppressive sanctions.
Surely, the sanctions will double the Iranian nation’s resistance against Washington’s unilateral sanctions, he said.
Earlier, Hossein Jaberi Ansari in a meeting with President Bashar Assad in Damascus on Monday discussed the latest developments in Syria.
The two sides underlined the significance of relations between Iran and Syria as a main factor contributing to regional stability in the face of the policies being followed by the US and its regional agents.
President Assad and Jaberi Ansari also exchanged views on fighting terrorism and the efforts made to push forward the political process in Syria, particularly the formation of a committee to examine the current constitutional law of the country.
The two sides stressed that the US administration and other state sponsors of terrorism are hindering both the fight against terrorism and the political process in the country so as to gain what they failed to achieve during war years.
