The government on Thursday ordered that M Nageshwar Rao, Additional Director CBI, will look after the duties of the CBI Director till the appointment of a new chief or until further orders.
An order to this effect was passed by the Ministry of Personnel, appoint committee of the cabinet, after the appointment panel decided that the outgoing CBI Director Alok Verma will be shunted from the high profile position.
According to the new order, Mr Verma will move as Director General Fire Service, Civil Defence and Home Guards.
The official order further said Mr Verma will be in his new position “for the residual period of his present term”.
In October, Mr Rao was directed to head the probe agency in interim capacity.
The government had ordered both Alok Verma and Special Director Rakesh Asthana to go on forced
