Two militants were on Monday killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces in central Kashmir district of Budgam, where internet services has been suspended for security reasons.
Official sources said following specific information about the presence of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police, Army and CRPF at Hapatnar, Charar-e-Sharif in Budgam Monday morning.
They said when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. “The security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter,” they said.
They said two militants were killed in the exchange of fire. “The operation is still going on as one more militant is believed to be trapped in the area,” they added.
The locals from the nearby villages said loud explosions could be heard since early this morning.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services of all cellular companies have been suspended to prevent spreading of rumours.
