On the occasion of Constitution Day, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the constitution is facing a fundamental crisis. He said that the time had arrived when everyone unitedly brought India back to its values while lashing out at the Narendra Modi-led central government. On what should be a proud day for the country, it is witnessing 'lawless law' that has been engineered by the ruling party and its ideology, the newly-elected Congress chief said.
Kharge underlined his observations in a written public statement titled 'The Looming Crisis of the Indian Constitution'.
In an official statement on the occasion, he underlined that the terms Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could be used interchangeably and that the Centre has 'completely surrendered itself and its institutions to the diktats of the RSS'.
"A Constitution that has successfully stood the test of time for over seven decades, today this very Constitution faces a fundamental crisis, indeed an existential crisis for the spirit behind its text," Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said.
"The govt has completely surrendered itself and its institutions to the diktats of the RSS, an organisation that pushes hateful propaganda under the garb of social service. In fact, it is no longer incorrect to use the terms RSS and BJP interchangeably," Kharge said.
"On what should be a proud day for us all, we're witnessing the onset of what Baba Saheb would have referred to as “lawless law”, riddled with never-ending infringements on fundamental rights, systematically engineered by the BJP-RSS government since they've been in power," Congress President Kharge said.
'RSS USES BJP TO CURTAIL FREEDOMS': KHARGE
The Congress chief said that the crisis stemmed from the RSS's 'ever-expanding reach' and the 'legitimacy of its ideology, with the BJP being in power since 2014'. In the official statement, he said that the RSS has used the BJP to curtail freedoms enshrined in the Constitution of India.
"Illegal has become legal because the fringe has now become mainstream," Kharge said while stating that the Modi-led government has conferred no avenues to 'express dissent'.
He did not give the highly-talked-about subject of the BJP misusing central agencies to 'tackle' opposition parties a miss. He said, "Any dissent by the Opposition is being 'tackled' by coercively misusing central investigative agencies- CBI & ED- against them."
Bringing up issues prevalent in the country, as per Kharge, the Congress chief noted the 'mysterious deaths of judges', 'children being given instructions in weapon training', attacks on minorities that are 'celebrated', etc.
"History books are being rewritten to suit and perpetuate BJP's hateful agenda," Kharge wrote.
