the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that Israel is blocking essential materials from entering the Gaza Strip, most notably vaccines and powdered infant formula.
UNICEF emphasized that it faces meaningful challenges in delivering 1.6 million syringes and solar-powered refrigerators designed for storing children’s vaccines.
The organization added that these supplies have been awaiting entry permits since August 2023.
UNICEF also reported that an extensive vaccination campaign for children is ongoing amid a fragile ceasefire in Gaza.
Separately, Palestine’s Sama news agency quoted the Gaza Ministry of Health as stating that 6,000 cases of amputations have been recorded in the strip so far. All require urgent and long-term rehabilitation programs.
the ministry noted that shortages in medical facilities and assistive devices have worsened conditions for those with amputations.
It also reported that approximately 25 percent of amputation cases involve children, while 12.7 percent are women.
