Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday invoked the strength and resolve of “New Bharat" as he addressed the gathering at the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme at Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi, Karnataka.
Talking of national security, the Prime Minister said, “Humara Sudarshan Chakra dushman ko tabah karde (Our Sudarshan Chakra would destroy the enemies). We saw this in Operation Sindoor."
“Earlier, when such terrorist attacks happened, the government used to do nothing. But this is New Bharat, it has not bowed down before anyone, and neither has it backed away when it comes to protecting its citizens," the Prime Minister added.
[The Sudarshana Chakra is a heavenly discus that represents divine wisdom, spiritual energy, and cosmic justice. In contrast to an ordinary weapon, it represents the awakened will of Lord Vishnu, which is put into operation for maintaining cosmic order and annihilating forces that shatter universal harmony.]
The Prime Minister arrived at the ancient Sri Krishna Matha after holding a roadshow in Udupi, where large crowds lined up to welcome him.
He then visited the Matha and participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana, a mass recitation that witnessed over one lakh people chanting verses from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in unison.
The participants included students, monks, scholars, and citizens from different walks of life.
Ahead of addressing the crowd, PM Modi inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa, located in front of the Krishna sanctum, and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha, the golden cover for the sacred Kanakana Kindi.
The window is revered as the spot from which Saint Kanakadasa is believed to have had divine darshan of Bhagwan Krishna.
Taking the stage, PM Modi expressed his emotional connection to the occasion.
“Deeply honoured for the opportunity to be in the presence of the revered sages," he said.
Recalling his recent visit to Kurukshetra, he remarked, “Three days ago, I was in the land of the Gita, Kurukshetra. Now today, coming to this land of the blessings of Lord Shri Krishna and the glory of Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya ji is an opportunity of supreme satisfaction for me."
Highlighting the scale of the collective recitation, PM Modi noted, “On this occasion today, when 1 lakh people recited verses from the Bhagavad Gita together, the people of the entire world have also witnessed the divine splendour of India’s thousands of years."
He added that the spiritual atmosphere had moved him deeply.
“Being in the divine presence of Bhagwan Shri Krishna and experiencing the spiritual grace of the sacred verses of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita fills me with a depth that words struggle to hold."
“For me, this moment feels like receiving countless merits and boundless grace," he added.
The Prime Minister also asked his security personnel to collect paintings of him made by children present at the venue, acknowledging their affection.
Touching upon Ayodhya, he said, “Ayodhya mein dharam dhwaj ki sthapna hui hai," and added that “the whole country knows the importance of Udupi in Ram Mandir andolan."
PM Modi further underlined Udupi’s significance in shaping India’s political and administrative direction.
“Udupi holds a special place for me for another reason as well. Udupi has been the land of action for the good governance model of the Jana Sangh and the BJP. Along with that, Udupi also laid the foundation of a new governance model," he said.
Calling for public participation in strengthening the economy, he said, “We all have to say vocal for local."
The Prime Minister concluded that the teachings of the Gita guide not just individuals but also national policy, adding, “The words of the Gita not only guide individuals but also shape the direction of the nation’s policies."
