‘Deal with situation or it will cause anarchy’: Supreme Court to EC on alleged SIR violations

The Supreme Court on Tuesday took serious note of allegations of BLOs being threatened and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) work being hindered in West Bengal and other states. “Bring to our notice instances of lack of cooperation and threatening of BLOs. We’ll pass orders,” the Supreme Court was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi was hearing the petition.
The Supreme Court was hearing a plea by the Sanatani Sangsad seeking deployment of adequate CAPF for West Bengal SIR. The ECI told the Supreme Court it has all Constitutional powers to deal with threatening of BLOs and other officials engaged in SIR work. “If situation aggravates, there would be no option but to take police under deputation,” the EC told the SC on the SIR work being ‘hindered’ in states.
“Deal with situation or it will cause anarchy,” the SC told the ECI.
