Guwahati: The Congress and the TMC have accused the state govt of violating the model code of conduct (MCC) by keeping intact advertisements and publicity materials with photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Both the parties have written to the ECI, seeking action.
Assam PCC president Bhupen Borah and Assam TMC president Ripun Bora shot off two separate letters to chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar, calling the act as gross violation of MCC.
“This is to bring to your notice that despite the model code of conduct coming into force, the Government of Assam has not yet removed advertisements and publicity material with the photographs of PM and CM. This is gross violation of the model code of conduct. You are hereby requested to take appropriate action immediately,” Bhupen wrote.
Ripun also alleged that there are still a large number of hoardings across the state bearing govt advertisements with photographs of the PM and the CM.
Sources in the election department said after complaints to the EC, the Assam CEO has instructed the district election officers in a meeting on Monday to remove advertisements and publicity materials as soon as possible.
