Days after the Muzaffarnagar Police asked all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners' names, the administration has now extended the diktat to other shops as well to avoid any "confusion".
On Saturday, officials of the Muzaffarnagar Police visited local mechanic and barber shops along the Kanwar route, instructing their owners to place boards outside the shops displaying their names and contact numbers.
Speaking to India Today TV, a mechanic shop owner, Saleem, said a few cops visited him and directed him to put a board outside the shop displaying his name and contact number.
"Policemen came yesterday and asked to put up the list (with the shop owner's name and contact number)," Saleem told India Today TV.
When asked about the possible reason behind the order, Saleem said, "I don't know about that. Maybe they (cops) only know the reason for asking us to put the boards."
Another mechanic shop owner, Munna alias Mohammed Nasser, also shared a similar story.
"I told them that my shop is not an eatery, but a mechanic shop, to which they said that everyone could see it, but put the name and number on the shop," Nasser said.
Meanwhile, Sultan, who runs a roadside barber shop in Muzaffarnagar, said a few cops also came to his shop and asked him to put a board displaying his name and contact number.
Earlier, the Muzaffarnagar Police ordered all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of owners to avoid any "confusion".
Later, the decision was also extended to all the shops across the state after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's order.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also said that similar instructions are already in place in his state as well.
