Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, accusing him of oppressing the opposition, toppling elected governments, and “buying” legislators “like goats to feed and feast on them later”.
Kharge criticised Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly running the central government in collaboration with business tycoons Adani and Ambani.
“Modi believes in toppling governments and purchasing MLAs. He treats them like goats—keeping them, feeding them, and later ‘feasting on them,’” Kharge said at a rally in Ranchi. “This is Modi’s way.”
The Congress leader also claimed that Modi and Shah were using central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target opposition leaders. “But we are not afraid. We fought for Independence and sacrificed our lives,” Kharge asserted.
Kharge further alleged that four people were effectively running the country: “Modi, Shah, Adani, and Ambani,” while he and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were “trying to save the Constitution and democracy.”
He also took aim at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, accusing him of hypocrisy. “A true Yogi cannot use language like ‘batenge toh katenge’ (if divided, we will be wiped out). That’s the language of terrorists. Yogi wears saffron robes but believes in ‘mukh mein Ram, bagal mein chhuri’ (a wolf in lamb’s clothing),” Kharge said.
Kharge also mocked Modi’s leadership, saying the prime minister has failed to deliver on his promises. “Modi has been in power for 25 years, first as CM and now as PM. He has supported those who exploit the backward classes and women,” Kharge said. “And he’s afraid to visit Manipur. I dare him to go there.”
The Congress chief also took a swipe at Modi’s claims of a “Golden Era” in Gujarat, saying, “Did any Golden era come to Gujarat?”
Kharge concluded by referencing the compassion shown by Congress leaders, claiming that Sonia Gandhi forgave one of Rajiv Gandhi’s killers, while Priyanka Gandhi had embraced the same individual, calling it a sign of true compassion.
