Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday wrote to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, highlighting what he called the "BJP's wrongdoings" that undermine democracy, and questioned whether Bhagwat supports such actions.
The BJP, in a New Year letter, hit back at Kejriwal by listing out some advice for him to follow, including "stopping the lying", as the political war of words intensifies ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The former Delhi Chief Minister asked the RSS chief whether he supported the "wrongdoings" committed by the BJP in the past and also enquired whether the organisation condones vote-buying, claiming that the BJP has been distributing money to voters in Delhi.
“There are reports in the media that the RSS will seek votes for the BJP in the Delhi elections. Is this true? Before this, people want to know from you whether the RSS supports the wrongdoings committed by the BJP in the recent past?” Kejriwal’s letter asked.
“1. BJP leaders are openly buying votes by distributing money. Does the RSS support vote-buying? 2. On a large scale, efforts are being made to cut the votes of the poor, Dalits, people from Purvanchal, and slum dwellers, even though these people have been living here for many years. Does the RSS think that doing this is right for Indian democracy?” he asked.
The BJP responded to Kejriwal’s letter by offering him some advice for the new year, including stopping lies and making false promises.
“Kejriwal should stop lying and read our questions. The people of Delhi hope that Kejriwal will stop lying in the new year. Hopefully, now Kejriwal will not take false oaths on his children. Kejriwal should take a pledge that he will not accept donations from anti-national forces. Kejriwal will not make false promises to the people of Delhi. Kejriwal should take this oath in the new year,” said Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva.
The BJP leader sent a letter to Kejriwal with the same advices.
AAP and BJP have been embroiled in a heated war of words in the national capital, with AAP accusing the BJP of vote-buying and manipulating voter lists, while the BJP retaliates with allegations of false promises and corruption, among other charges.
Delhi is expected to hold Assembly elections to choose its 70 MLAs before February this year.
