Hezbollah's secretary general has emphasized Iran's pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause of liberation from Israeli occupation and aggression, while strongly condemning the Israeli regime for its barbarism throughout the region that is hugely enabled by American support.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is a central backer of the Palestinian cause,” Sheikh Naim Qassem said, delivering an address on the occasion of the International Quds Day, a pro-Palestinian event marked on an annual basis worldwide, on Friday.
He pointed to the occasion’s having been pioneered by the late founder of Iran’s Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, who, following the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution under his leadership, designated the last Friday of the holy month of Ramdan as the global Quds Day, and urged that the day be marked worldwide each year.
“The late Imam Khomeini declared [the last Friday of each Ramadan] a global day to confront oppression and tyranny,” Sheikh Qassem noted.
“According to Imam Khamenei, the Palestinian cause is not a political tactic, but a matter of faith, heart, and belief,” he said, adding, “This day extends from Palestine to the whole world, but its central point remains Palestine.”
Hezbollah’s leader also noted that from the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution until now -- a period which has featured unstinting Iranian support for the Palestinian cause and the Islamic Republic’s promoting pro-Palestinian support worldwide -- "many transformations have occurred in favor of resistance” against Israeli atrocities.
He urged that the Quds Day be observed globally each year as per Imam Khomeini’s advice as “a religious and ideological duty that transcends borders and politics.”
“International Quds Day is a day of solidarity with the occupied [holy city of] al-Quds and with all the oppressed people around the world in the face of the arrogant powers, occupiers, conspirators, and tyrants.”
The resistance leader, meanwhile, identified the Israeli regime as “a demonic, expansionist entity that feeds off US imperialism.”
“Israel is an expansionist enemy that knows no limits and will surpass all borders; resistance is a legitimate right and natural response,” he asserted.
‘Lebanon on Israel’s annexation list’
Sheikh Qassem considered the Israeli regime’s claims to regional territories to be void of all legitimacy.
He also warned that the regime had placed Lebanon on its “annexation list,” especially coveting southern Lebanese regions, which Tel Aviv was seeking to arrogate to itself through illegal settlement construction schemes.
Towards realizing its expansionist ambitions, Sheikh Qassem added, the regime was regularly violating its ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah through bombings in southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley in the country’s east, and the suburbs of the capital Beirut.
He described these contraventions as full acts of aggression that had to be halted, besides demanding the regime’s unconditional withdrawal from Lebanese territory
The Lebanese official called upon the Lebanese state to move beyond diplomatic efforts to confront the regime and its daily deadly violations of the deal, reminding that Hezbollah had fully abided by the ceasefire’s terms, despite Tel Aviv’s transgressions.
He urged the Lebanese government to initiate reconstruction discussions without linking them to any other issues, and affirmed that Hezbollah stood ready to support the state in efforts of reconstruction, rescue, and reform.
Sheikh Qassem, meanwhile, categorically rejected any form of normalization with the regime, noting how several of the country’s presidents had opposed such path.
Also on Friday, Zainab Nasrallah, daughter of Hezbollah’s former secretary-general Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated during the intensified Israeli attacks on Lebanon last year, asserted that Israeli assassinations of the movement’s senior figures would not weaken the resistance.
Addressing a massive rally held in the Iranian capital Tehran on the occasion of the Quds Day, she stated, "The criminal Zionists shouldn’t think that killing resistance leaders will weaken the resistance or open a door for them to occupy our land or normalize ties."
‘Al-Aqsa Storm globalized Palestinian cause’
Elsewhere in his remarks, Sheikh Qassem praised the resilience of the Palestinian resistance, emphasizing its determination to achieve liberation "from the river to the sea," namely the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.
In the same context, he referred to Operation al-Aqsa Storm, a historic operation against the occupied Palestinian territories by the Gaza Strip’s resistance movements, which saw resistance fighters venture deep within the territories, encircle strategic Israeli bases, and ensnare 241 Zionists.
Sheikh Qassem said the operation had transformed the Palestinian cause into a global issue, garnering widespread support and attention.
Now, resistance remained "armed, supported, and widely embraced in the region," the official said, while reaffirming Hezbollah's unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause and resistance against Israeli aggression.
‘No dignified life under occupation, aggression’
Hezbollah's secretary general underlined the imperative nature of facing up to the Israeli regime’s atrocities on the part of all the regional peoples suffering from Tel Aviv’s occupation and aggression, noting how the regime’s savagery prohibited leading dignified existence.
"We’ve received letters from [resistance] fighters ready for martyrdom, eager to defend the cause [of liberation from Israeli aggression and occupation]," Sheikh Qassem said, adding, “The love for life exists — but only a dignified life rooted in resistance.”
