UN offers condolences to Iran after deadly Bandar Abbas port explosion

The United Nations has expressed its condolences to the government and people of Iran following a massive explosion at the Shahid Rajaee Port in the southern city of Bandar Abbas.
Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, expressed the UN’s solidarity with the government and people of Iran during this difficult time on Saturday.
“We were saddened to learn about the large number of casualties caused by the explosion on April 26 at Shahid Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas in the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Dujarric.
“We express our condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. We wish the injured a swift recovery,” he added.
The United Arab Emirates also expressed its solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran on Sunday over the deadly blast.
In a statement, UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its sincere condolences to the government and people of Iran, and the families of the victims of this tragic incident, and wished a speedy recovery for all the injured.
Jordon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday expressed the Kingdom’s “sympathies and full solidarity with the friendly Islamic Republic of Iran and its condolences to the families of the victims.”
Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on Sunday sent a message of condolences to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s government and people.
Rodriguez Parrilla wrote in a message on his Telegram channel: “We express our deepest condolences to the Iranian nation and government for the explosion that occurred at the Shahid Rajaee Port in the south of the country, and we offer our condolences to the families of those who died and those injured in this incident.”
The tragic incident has so far claimed 18 lives and injured more than 800 individuals.
Authorities have further reassured the public that an in-depth investigation is underway to establish the cause of the explosion and prevent its recurrence.
