NEW DELHI:Taking strong cognizance of the weekend mob violence incident in Aligarh District in Uttar Pradesh, wherein four Muslim youth were brutally assaulted by some Hindutva proponents masquerading as cow vigilantes, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (Mahmood faction) demanded swift action and immediate arrest of perpetrators. The Jamiat said the incident was inhumane, deeply distressing, and a disgrace to the nation’s conscience.
It is reported that the four youth were waylaid, beaten black and blue and stripped by the cow vigilantes on May 24. The condition of three of them has been described as critical.
The four men have been identified as Arbaz, Aqeel, Kadim, and Munna Khan – all residents of Atrauli town in Aligarh District.
Videos of the attack have been shared multiple times on social media. The four men were attacked with sharp weapons, bricks, sticks, and rods. “I cannot describe the injuries. You can watch the videos. My son is fighting for his life in the hospital,” Aqeel’s father, Salim Khan, said.
Strongly condemning the incident, Maulana Mahmood Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, described the incident as inhumane, deeply distressing, and a disgrace to the nation’s conscience. He stated that targeting Muslim youth on mere suspicion of carrying beef represents a serious threat to communal harmony, public safety, and the rule of law.
He expressed grave concern over the recurrence of such incidents, despite the existence of stringent laws and clear directives from the Supreme Court. He lamented the growing impunity with which self-styled cow vigilante groups continue to operate, often enjoying tacit support and protection.
He called upon both the union and state governments to take unequivocal and public stands against such acts of mob violence. “No group or individual has the right to take the law into their own hands. The rule of law must prevail, and Supreme Court guidelines must be implemented in letter and spirit,” he asserted.
He demanded a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the incident. He urged authorities to ensure the immediate arrest of all perpetrators and prosecute them under relevant anti-mob lynching and criminal provisions. He appealed for full medical care, security, and appropriate compensation for the victims.
In response to the incident, a delegation from Jamiat Ulama Aligarh, led by its President Mufti Akbar Qasmi, visited the injured victims at JNMC Hospital and extended full solidarity and support to their families. A detailed report on the situation was submitted to the General Secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi. The report affirmed that the victims are licensed meat traders and had meat from non-prohibited animals, supported by valid documentation. Nevertheless, the attackers disregarded all explanations and indulged in violence.
