Priyanka Gandhi Accuses IDF Of ‘Genocide’ In Gaza, Israeli Envoy Calls Claim ‘Shameful Deceit’

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday condemned the killings in Gaza, accusing Israel of committing “genocide" and the Indian government of “standing silent" as Palestinians suffer.
She cited figures of over 60,000 deaths, including 18,430 children, and called the killing of five Al Jazeera journalists in a targeted strike a “heinous crime."
Gandhi said enabling such actions through silence and inaction is “a crime in itself."
However, the Israeli Embassy Ambassador rejected her allegations and termed it a “shameful deceit".
Responding to her remarks, Israeli Embassy Ambassador Reuven Azar said Israel has killed 25,000 Hamas militants and blamed civilian casualties on Hamas’s tactics of “hiding behind civilians" and obstructing aid.
He stated that Israel has delivered two million tonnes of food to Gaza and dismissed genocide claims, urging people not to “buy Hamas numbers."
WHAT PRIYANKA GANDHI VADRA POSTED
Commenting on the killing of five Al Jazeera journalists in a targeted Israeli strike in Gaza, Priyanka Gandhi, in an X post, wrote, “The cold-blooded murder of five Al Jazeera journalists is yet another heinous crime committed on Palestinian soil."
“The immeasurable courage of those who dare to stand for the truth will never be broken by the violence and hatred of the Israeli state," she mentioned.
“In a world where much of the media is enslaved to power and commerce, these brave souls reminded us of what true journalism is. May they rest in peace," Priyanka Gandhi wrote.
In another post, she mentioned, “The Israeli state is committing genocide. It has murdered over 60,000 people, 18,430 of whom were children. It has starved hundreds to death, including many children and is threatening to starve millions."
“Enabling these crimes by silence and inaction is a crime in itself," Gandhi mentioned.
“It is shameful that the Indian Government stands silent as Israel unleashes this devastation on the people of Palestine," she added.
THE ISRAELI EMBASSY’s RESPONSE
Quoting Priyanka Gandhi’s X post, Israeli Embassy Ambassador Reuven Azar wrote, “What is shameful is your deceit. Israel Killed 25,000 Hamas terrorists." (sic).
“The terrible cost in human lives derives from Hamas’s heinous tactics of hiding behind civilians, their shooting of people trying to evacuate or receive assistance and their rocket fire," he wrote.
“Israel facilitated 2 million tonnes of food into Gaza while Hamas tries to sequestrate them, thereby creating hunger," the Embassy Ambassador mentioned.
“Gaza population has grown 450 per cent in the last 50 years, no genocide there. Don’t buy Hamas numbers," he added.
A total of 184 Palestinian journalists and media workers have been killed by Israel in the Gaza war since its start in October 2023, the Associated Press quoted the Committee to Protect Journalists as saying.
That compares to the 18 journalists and media workers killed so far in the Russia-Ukraine war, CPJ said.
