The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says Israel has created new obstacles to a ceasefire agreement, despite progress in negotiations in Doha.
The resistance movement said in a statement on Wednesday that “negotiations are continuing in Doha under the mediation of Qatar and Egypt in a serious manner.”
“But the occupation has set new conditions concerning withdrawal (of troops), the ceasefire, prisoners, and the return of displaced people, which has delayed reaching an agreement.”
It said the resistance has demonstrated responsibility and flexibility in the negotiations.
Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that there had been "some progress" in the talks. On Tuesday, his representatives returned from Qatar for consultations about a deal.
In the meantime, the regime’s military forces kept up attacks on the Gaza Strip, killing at least 23 people, including women and children, on Wednesday, according to medics.
Among those killed were nine members of a single family in the northern town of Jabalia and a pregnant woman in Gaza City. Medics said they managed to save her baby, but the newborn now faces life without its mother.
In its daily update on the death toll from more than 14 months of Israel’s campaign of genocide, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Wednesday that more than 45,360 people have so far been killed across the besieged territory.
Health officials say thousands of unidentified bodies are still buried under the rubble in Gaza; they are not yet included in estimates.
