Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board offered jobs to Syed Nazakat Hussain Shah, the brother of the brave pony handler who died while saving the tourists during the Pahalgam terrorist attack that left 26 dead.
Syed Adil Hussain Shah, 30, was the only local who was killed in the attack that also claimed the lives of 25 tourists. He was guiding visitors on his pony when the terrorists opened fire in the scenic meadows.
Earlier, while speaking to AFP, his father had said, “He sacrificed his own life while trying to save innocent tourists. He showed his humanity and that allows us to live on."
Shah, in a brave attempt, not only helped the tourist guide but also tried to snatch away the weapon of the terrorist in order to save a tourist. He succumbed to three gunshot injuries to the chest.
Recounting the horror, one of the tourists, Asavari, from Pune had earlier said, “I gathered courage and managed to escape with my mother and aunt. While coming down, my mother suffered leg injuries. A pony rider offered us support and hope. He gave us a pony ride to our driver."
Pahalgam Terrorist Attack
The Pahalgam terrorist attack that occurred on April 22 was the deadliest attack in the Valley since the Pulwama strike in 2019. Terrorists opened fire in Baisaran Valley, also referred to as “Mini Switzerland".
In the aftermath of the attack, India downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan. It cancelled the visas of Pakistani nationals and suspended the Indus Waters Treaty.
PM Modi vowed harsh punishment for the terrorists and assured justice to the victims in his recent Mann Ki Baat address. “I assure the victims’ families that they will get justice. The conspirators and perpetrators of this attack will face the toughest response," said PM Modi during the 121st episode of his radio programme.
