‘Give Sindoor to your wife first’: Mamata Banarjee slams PM Modi

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday fiercely criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his comments on the recent Murshidabad violence, accusing him of using falsehoods to divide the country. She also challenged the BJP to face elections immediately, saying her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), is fully prepared for the contest.
Speaking at a public event, Banerjee said, “What Modi ji said today, we are not only shocked but also very sad to hear this, when the Opposition is representing the country.” She referred to remarks by a BJP minister who vowed to launch “Operation Bengal” similar to “Operation Sindoor,” and issued a direct challenge: “If they have guts, go into elections tomorrow. We are ready and Bengal is ready to accept your challenge.”
Banerjee derided the BJP as the “Jumla Party,” accusing the Prime Minister of spreading lies and politicizing cultural campaigns like Operation Sindoor for electoral gains.
Addressing the controversy surrounding the BJP’s Operation Sindoor, she said,, “Don’t insult women, Narendra Modi, by giving them sindoor. Women accept sindoor only from their husbands. Why should they take it from you? Why have you not given sindoor to your own Mrs first?” She branded Modi’s campaign as “foul and hollow gimmicks,” exposing it in a “typhoon-force attack.
