US President Donald Trump rejected Emmanuel Macron's claim that he left the G7 summit to work on a ceasefire deal between Israel and Iran, adding that the French President "always gets it wrong".
Hours after abruptly leaving the summit, Trump posted on Truth Social that Macron has "no idea" why he is on his way back to Washington DC. He also described Macron as a "publicity seeking" president.
"Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a “cease fire” between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire," Trump said.
The US President signalled that there is a "much bigger" reason behind his exit.
"Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!" Trump said, hinting at some development soon.
Earlier today, Trump cut short his visit to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, leaving late Monday evening amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iran.
Trump’s early exit came just hours after he issued a dramatic warning on social media, calling for the immediate evacuation of Tehran.
“Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” he posted, fueling speculation over possible US military involvement. Earlier in the day, he had cautioned Iran to halt its nuclear ambitions before it was “too late.”
French President Macron later claimed that Trump had made an offer for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, indicating that it could be the reason behind his premature departure.
"There is indeed an offer to meet and exchange. An offer was made especially to get a ceasefire and to then kick-start broader discussions," Macron told reporters at the G7 following the US President's exit.
The summit is taking place against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, with both sides exchanging missiles and drones since last Friday.
