The Israeli military has carried out a string of airstrikes against several locations in southern Lebanon in the latest breach of a shaky ceasefire in place since November 2024 between the Arab country and the occupying regime.
Lebanese media outlets reported that a series of Israeli air attacks hit the Ali al-Taher forest between Nabatieh al-Fawqa region and Kfar Tebnit area early on Friday, sparking a fierce fire.
Images and videos posted online showed large plumes of fire and smoke engulfing the area following the bombardment.
The Israeli military said in a statement that a strike targeted what it claimed was a facility of the Hezbollah resistance movement in the Beaufort Castle area of southern Lebanon.
The site, which Israeli forces struck previously in June and in May, was used by the group to “manage its fire and defense array,” the military claimed.
Following significant losses sustained over nearly 14 months of war and the failure to meet its objectives in the aggression against Lebanon, Israel was compelled to accept a ceasefire with Hezbollah, which took effect on November 27, 2024.
Since the agreement came into effect, the occupying forces have launched repeated assaults on Lebanon, including airstrikes across the country, in clear violation of the ceasefire.
On January 27, Lebanon announced its decision to extend the ceasefire with Israel until February 18.
Although the deadline has passed, Israel continues to maintain its occupation of five significant regions in southern Lebanon, namely Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill, all situated near the border.
Lebanon has condemned the continued presence of Israeli military forces, viewing it as a violation of the ceasefire agreement and the established timeline for withdrawal. Senior officials in Beirut have expressed their commitment to take “all necessary measures” to remove the occupying troops from the nation.
