On the occasion of Diwali, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited a 235-year-old sweetshop in Chandni Chowk and even tried his hand in making sweets.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said: “I tried my hand at making Imarti and Besan Laddus at the famous and historic Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi."
He praised the shop for retaining its “centuries-old" tradition of “purity, traditional, and heart-touching".
“The true sweetness of Diwali lies not just in the platter, but also in relationships and society," he said.
Sharing a video of his interaction with the customers and shop owner, he also asked people about their way of making Diwali special.
Ghantewala sweet shop had reopened last year after being closed in July 2015 due to familial disputes and falling sales and legal standoff with the Delhi Pollution Control Board. The shop standing in the crowded bylane of Chandni Chowk has over the years shrunk in size due to the partition of the property.
In the video, a frame of the wedding invitation card of Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi could also be seen.
In response to his post, some users condmned him for visiting the popular shop on Diwali.
“In the frenzy of its promotion, the poor shopkeeper ended up suffering a loss. How many customers must have walked away, right on the festival day itself," said one of the users.
Meanwhile, another user said: “People love RaGa Not just because he’s politicians But because he represents Hope, a rare leader, driven by empathy not just Electoral wins, and admired for his humility and sincerity # RaGa # Voice of India # @RshulGandhi@ Jai Hind#"
