Colombian President Gustavo Petro has publicly mocked U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent statements regarding Venezuelan oil, proposing a trade: the return of Texas, California, and all of South America before any oil negotiations.
Petro criticized Trump’s claim that Venezuela’s oil was stolen from the U.S., sarcastically suggesting that if Latin American leaders cannot demand the return of stolen land, neither should Trump. “Texas is a territory that was invaded, not sold. The same goes for California and all of South America,” Petro stated.
He further challenged Trump’s logic, asking why the U.S. president could demand the return of oil while dismissing similar claims from Latin America. “Let’s make a deal,” Petro said. “You (Americans) return what you stole—Texas, California, and all of South America—and what you think we stole from you (which we didn’t), then we can discuss the oil.”
