The Election Commission has again extended the date for the publication of the draft voter list in Uttar Pradesh by one week and announced a revised schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. With January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, the draft electoral roll will now be published on January 6. It was previously slated to be released on December 31.
The Election Commission stated that the final electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh would be published on March 6, 2026, and has directed all officials to adhere to the new timelines.
The names of around 2.89 crore voters, or 18.7% of the state's electorate, are likely to be dropped from the draft electoral roll, as per the state's chief electoral officer, PTI reported. These voters, the poll officer said, were either deceased, had permanently shifted, enrolled elsewhere, or were absent or untraceable.
Most of the deletions were from big urban centres, including Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj and Kanpur.
