Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday reiterated that Hindu families should consider having at least three children. He was addressing a social-harmony meeting at Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Lucknow.
Bhagwat expressed concern over what he described as a declining Hindu population and called for uniting and empowering Hindu society. He said there is no threat but vigilance is necessary.
“There is a need to unite and empower Hindus. There is no threat to us but vigilance is necessary," Bhagwat said.
Three-child policy and marriage
Bhagwat said Hindu families should consider at least three children. He cited scientific opinions that societies with an average fertility rate below three could disappear in the future.
He said newly married couples should be made aware of this. According to him, the purpose of marriage is to carry forward creation, not merely to fulfil personal desires.
Infiltration
Raising concerns over infiltration, Bhagwat said infiltrators should be detected, deleted and deported, and not given employment.
He stressed that lack of harmony leads to discrimination and said all citizens share one country and one motherland. He described Sanatan thought as a philosophy of harmony and said differences must be addressed through understanding and practice.
Bhagwat on laws, caste and global role
Responding to a question on UGC guidelines, Bhagwat said laws must be obeyed and flawed laws can be changed through constitutional means.
He said caste divisions should not cause conflict and called for uplifting the disadvantaged with a sense of belonging. Bhagwat added that India would guide the world in the near future and that many global problems have solutions in the country’s civilisational ethos.
He also cautioned that some elements in the United States and China are working against India’s social harmony and called for vigilance and mutual trust.
