Video of assault on elderly Muslims in UP’s Budaun sparks outrage; Congress blames ‘vicious ideology’ of BJP, RSS

A video has gone viral on social media that shows a young man, allegedly affiliated with a Hindutva group, assaulting elderly Muslim men in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun. The official X page of the Indian National Congress identified the assailant as Bajrang Dal leader Akshay Thakur.
Following the uproar over the attack, Badaun Police on Saturday said that the person has been arrested and sent to jail after registering a case in the Islamnagar Police station.
The timestamp on the video states the incident happened on February 15, 2026. Akshay forced the Muslim men to remove their caps and then chased them.
Sharing the video, Congress said that Narendra Modi and the “vicious ideology” of the BJP-RSS have plunged the country into the “fire of hatred”. “Since 2014, cases of crimes against minorities have been continuously rising. Such shameful incidents are coming to light across the entire country,” the opposition group said.
Congress MP from Kishanganj, Dr Mohammad Jawed, shared the video, stating that “hate-driven violence and targeted intimidation are becoming alarmingly frequent in BJP ruled states”.
