Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Monday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and help stop the escalating war between Iran and Israel, saying that it is high time Modi, who has been projecting himself as a “Vishwaguru,” should act to halt the conflict that is widening after joint attack of US and Isrreal on Iran.
Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said that if President Donald Trump could claim to have stopped conflict between India and Pakistan, then Modi should use his global stature to intervene in the Middle East crisis.
“If President Trump can stop a war between India and Pakistan, then Modi ji, being such a big leader and a ‘Vishwaguru’, should stop the war between Iran and Israel. He is projected as a world leader unlike any before, so he should step forward and tell his friends that enough is enough and the war must stop,” Raut said.
Raut also called for India to officially express condolences over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing him as a “true friend of India” who had supported the country during past crises, including conflicts with Pakistan.
“When such a leader is assassinated, India’s Prime Minister and President should express grief. Who are they afraid of, Israel or President Trump?” he asked.
He said, “Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, was a personality respected across the world, except Israel. He was a true friend of India, and there has been a traditional friendship between the two countries. In times of crisis, whether during India-Pakistan wars or on the Kashmir issue, Iran always stood with India…When such a leader is assassinated, India should officially express grief.”
The conflict has triggered global uncertainty, with markets and sectors such as shipping, aviation and oil reacting sharply amid fears of a prolonged military confrontation in the region.
