Union Minister Giriraj Singh criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, stating that the Congress party is no longer the same as it was during the independence movement and has instead become a “Maoist, Muslim Congress.”
Speaking to ANI in New Delhi ahead of the Council of Ministers meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh rejected suggestions that the meeting was called in response to Rahul Gandhi’s comments. “This meeting is already decided. It is not that the Prime Minister will call a meeting on Rahul Gandhi’s statement, the Council of Ministers keep meeting,” he said.
Singh launched a strong attack on the Congress leader, stating, “Rahul Gandhi’s ground has slipped in the country. Now, the Congress is no longer the same as it was at the time of independence. It has become a Maoist, Muslim Congress.”
He further accused Congress leaders of repeatedly abusing the Prime Minister and insisted that the public continues to support PM Modi. “These people have abused Prime Minister Modi. No matter how much they abuse, the people of the country love Prime Minister Modi,” Singh said.
The remarks followed Rahul Gandhi’s strong critique of PM Modi during a public meeting in Amethi. Rahul Gandhi warned of an “economic storm” approaching India due to the West Asia conflict and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. He criticised the Prime Minister for failing to prepare the country for the crisis and mocked his recent interaction with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, saying he was “eating toffees with Meloni and making videos.” He also referenced his previous criticism of demonetisation and the COVID-19 lockdown, claiming PM Modi would again “weep and fold his hands” before the country.
Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi repeated his “traitor” remark against PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and stated he would not apologise for it.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to chair the Council of Ministers meeting at Sewa Teerth in New Delhi at 5 pm on Thursday. According to sources, the meeting will conduct a midterm review of the government’s performance amid rising global concerns over energy security and increasing fuel prices due to the West Asia conflict and disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz. Fuel prices were recently raised across India following global crude oil volatility linked to tensions arising from the US-Israel-Iran conflict earlier this year.
