KC Venugopal questions Home Minister’s absence amid opposition demands in Parliament

Congress MP KC Venugopal criticised the Centre on Wednesday for its unwillingness to address public issues raised by the opposition in Parliament, including the violent police response to protesting students in Delhi and alleged misappropriation of donations at Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir.
“Why is the Home Minister running away from Parliament?” Venugopal asked reporters in New Delhi, emphasising that the government must provide a solution to break the parliamentary deadlock. He called for accountability from both the government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the police action on July 20 against protestors at Jantar Mantar and the reported use of an “AK-47” during student protests in Bihar.
“The government is not listening to the voice of the people of this country. They are not listening to the voice of the opposition, which reflects the voice of the people. Why is the Home Minister running away from Parliament? There is no answer. A solution has to be given by the government. We are raising the issue. Students have been brutally assaulted by the Delhi police. They fired (pellets) on them. An AK-47 was used in Bihar. There should be an answer from the Home Minister of India. Why is he running away?” he said.
Venugopal mentioned other issues, such as ethanol blending and Jammu and Kashmir statehood, which the government has also refused to discuss. He highlighted the lack of investigation and accountability regarding the Ram Mandir donation allegations.
“Chanda Chori in Ram Mandir. There is no answer. We are only asking for a discussion about what happened to Ram Mandir donations. There is no accountability. There is no proper investigation. These are the issues. E20 is an issue. Jammu and Kashmir statehood is an issue. The government is not ready to discuss any public issue raised by us because they don’t want to run the Parliament. This is the problem,” he added.
The ongoing monsoon session of Parliament has seen repeated adjournments amidst demands for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to respond to public concerns during House proceedings.
Earlier, opposition MPs including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra marched from the Gandhi statue at Prerna Sthal to Makar Dwar in Parliament to protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the July 20 police response to CJP protestors, alleged Ayodhya Ram Mandir donation embezzlement, and other matters.
Separately, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demanded strict accountability from the central government for the police action against student protestors, asserting that public officials must take full responsibility for authorising the use of force on young citizens.
Addressing reporters, Vadra stated that India is a democratic country, “not someone’s royal court,” and demanded to know who authorised the use of lathi charges and pellet guns.
