Qatar’s Foreign Minister Consults Regional Counterparts Following Strait of Hormuz Meeting Postponement

Following the announcement of the postponement of the regional meeting aimed at reaching an agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which was scheduled to be held on Monday in Salalah, Oman, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, held phone consultations with the Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, and Oman.
The Qatari Foreign Minister held separate phone calls on Sunday evening with his counterparts to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation, avenues for their enhancement, and the latest regional developments. During a call with Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani reviewed the relations and cooperation between the two countries and ways to strengthen them. According to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides also consulted on ongoing diplomatic efforts and joint coordination to reduce tensions and enhance security and stability in the region.
The Qatari Foreign Minister emphasized Doha’s support for all diplomatic efforts and initiatives aimed at finding a solution to guarantee freedom of maritime navigation, pave the way for a comprehensive agreement, and achieve lasting peace in the region. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also discussed the latest regional developments and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and enhance security and stability in a phone call with Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan. This conversation also underscored the importance of coordination and diplomatic moves to contain tensions, with the Qatari Foreign Minister reiterating his country’s support for efforts that contribute to ensuring freedom of maritime navigation and reaching a comprehensive agreement for lasting peace in the region.
Al Jazeera network also reported, citing the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait. According to the Qatari network, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar also consulted with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman regarding efforts to reduce tensions and enhance security in the Persian Gulf region.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE Consult to Coordinate Positions Simultaneously, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) announced that Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, spoke with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, discussing bilateral relations, efforts to contain escalating tensions in the region, and current developments. The Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia and the UAE also consulted on the necessity of coordinating positions regarding regional developments and strengthening the framework of cooperation among the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Earlier, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, had announced the postponement of the regional meeting to reach an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz, which was scheduled for Monday, September 14, 2026, in Salalah. Al Busaidi stated in an official statement: ‘The regional meeting scheduled for Monday in Salalah has been postponed to ensure consensus.’
