Delhi Police’s IFSO unit registered more than four FIRs against social media handles allegedly spreading false narratives and attempting to vitiate the atmosphere in the country, police sources said.
As part of its ongoing social media monitoring, Delhi Police has so far removed around 500 social media posts and taken down approximately 100 handles, according to sources. The action is aimed at curbing the spread of misinformation, rumours and content allegedly intended to incite unrest among the public.
Police sources said some of the posts and accounts were being operated from Pakistan and were allegedly circulating anti-India content. Several Pakistani social media handles have reportedly been deactivated.
Delhi Police is continuing to monitor social media platforms for misleading information, rumours and content that could potentially disturb public order. The monitoring has intensified amid protests in the national capital following the de-notification of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest venue.
The police action comes amid heightened tensions after leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)- Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde- were detained on Tuesday morning after staging a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. In a video shared by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, the three leaders and party volunteers were seen jumping over a gate to enter the protest area with flags and raise slogans before police personnel intervened. Dipke later confirmed their detention, describing the demonstration as an attempt to reclaim Jantar Mantar as a protest site.

Sources said the IFSO unit had registered more than four FIRs in connection with social media content allegedly spreading false narratives. Around 500 posts have been removed and approximately 100 handles taken down as part of the monitoring exercise, they added.
Delhi Police is keeping a close watch on online content that allegedly spreads misinformation or promotes anti-India narratives. The action against the posts and accounts is part of its broader effort to prevent rumours from escalating tensions.
