The Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group met on Monday at party president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence to finalise the party's approach for the ongoing parliamentary session. The leaders discussed a range of pressing political, social and economic issues, including the clashes in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal and the bribery allegations against the Adani Group.
According to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, key topics such as the Adani Group 'bribery' row, the ongoing Manipur violence, border row with China, pollution, social polarisation and recent violence in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal were discussed.
The meeting, held by Kharge, saw the participation of senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Kumari Selja, Shashi Tharoor, Pramod Tiwari, P Chidambaram, and Gaurav Gogoi.
Ramesh emphasised the party's continued demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate bribery allegations against the Adani Group. "We raised key issues in Parliament today and will continue to do so," Ramesh said.
Pramod Tiwari, another senior party leader, reiterated that issues such as Manipur, Sambhal violence, and Adani 'bribery' row will dominate discussions in Parliament.
The winter session of Parliament began today but was adjourned shortly after opposition MPs in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha demanded holding discussions on clashes in Sambhal over the survey of a mosque and bribery allegations against the Adani Group.
Ahead of the winter session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised the opposition, saying that those repeatedly rejected by voters resort to disruptions and hooliganism in Parliament.
Both Houses of Parliament are set to reconvene on Wednesday, as Tuesday has been designated a non-sitting day to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly.
Congress leaders also revealed that a follow-up strategy meeting will be held on Wednesday to coordinate with INDIA bloc partners on a unified approach to key issues.
