With focus on a “strong plan” to defeat the BJP in Gujarat, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, interacted with former presidents, former leaders of opposition, political affairs committee members, district city presidents and office-bearers of various cells in the state on Friday. The meetings were held under the party’s ‘Samvad Programme’.
The Congress leader, who is on a two-day visit to the state, emphasised on organising “constructive” programmes so that the people of Gujarat get their “rights and privileges, along with justice”, said party spokesperson Manish Doshi. With major changes in the organisation, the spokesperson said, responsibility and accountability will also be ensured for the office-bearers.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) organisation in-charge and general secretary K C Venugopal, while talking to reporters, said that the “organisation year” has started from Gujarat. The meetings held during Gandhi’s Gujarat tour were internal meetings of the Congress organisation, in which the entire focus was on strengthening the organisation, for which opinions were sought from the party workers and discussions were held on changes required.
Friday’s dialogue at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan also saw discussions on ways to strengthen the voice of the people of Gujarat through new programmes. It was attended by Venugopal, Gujarat in-charge Mukul Wasnik, Gujarat Congress Committee chief Shaktisinh Gohil, Gujarat Congress leader Amit Chavda and AICC secretaries.
“Important issues including unemployment, inflation, women’s safety, farmers’ issues will be presented aggressively in Gujarat,” an official statement issued by the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee stated.
“Special emphasis is being placed on strengthening the (party’s) organisation up to the booth level through appropriate strategies. Preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections will be stronger. We are going to implement a strong plan to defeat the BJP in Gujarat,” the party spokesperson also said. More than 400 taluka and municipal chiefs attended the meetings on Friday.
As per the party, its focus is not only on its organisation in Gujarat, but the entire country. In a session to be held on April 8-9, the AICC will prepare and submit a roadmap for the Gujarat Congress unit.
