Jammu: Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan Sunday chaired a high-level review meeting – his first in Jammu – to assess security, law and order situation across J&K.
Sources stated that the Union Home Secretary chaired two meetings at the Convention Centres and made an assessment of the evolving security situation across UT, particularly in the wake of a surge of terror incidents in peaceful areas of the Jammu region and all other related critical aspects.
He also reviewed preparedness vis-à-vis Amarnath Yatra arrangements for a safe, secure and incident-free Yatra and multi-layer security grid for the USBRL project in the wake of the upcoming inauguration of the direct train to Kashmir.
This year 39-day Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 3 and conclude on August 9, 2025.
The Union Home Secretary was accompanied by the top officers of paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies.
“In the first session, security, law and order situation remained the dominating agenda. He enquired about the arrangements being made for Amarnath Yatra. He also had an assessment of layers of security put in place for “Train to Kashmir.” With a reiteration of a 360-degree security grid, he emphasised intensified and synergised anti-terrorist operations,” sources said.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo; J&K Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti; Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat; Additional DG CID Nitish Kumar; IGPs of Jammu and Kashmir zones, B S Tuti and V K Birdi besides other seniormost officers of BSF, CRPF and intelligence agencies participated in the meeting.
Focus, according to sources, was also on a fool-proof anti-infiltration grid. Director General of Police, J&K Nalin Prabhat briefed the meeting on the overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting assumed significance also as it happened in the backdrop of disturbing developments unfolding in Billawar where the bodies of three missing civilians were recovered from a nullah, just a day ago.
Later, the Union Home Secretary had a separate meeting with the intelligence agencies and gathered inputs about the evolving scenario and challenges for which the security forces would have to revise strategies.
Union Home Secretary, who had reached here Sunday morning on a day-long visit, left for the union capital in the evening.
This was his second visit to J&K. Earlier he had a similar high-level security meeting in Kashmir.
