The Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has denounced the Israeli regime’s decision to cut power to the Gaza Strip, describing the move as a genocidal act and futile pressure against the Palestinian nation.
According to Palestine’s Shehab news agency, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said that the power cut is part of the regime’s genocidal war against the residents of Gaza, noting that the Zionist occupiers have been cutting electricity since October 2023.
The spokesperson called for the implementation of decisions made by Arab states regarding the halt of the siege and hunger in Gaza.
Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas's Politburo, said that the Israeli decision to cut power – following restrictions on the delivery of food, medicine, and water to Gaza – is a futile attempt to pressure the Palestinian nation and the resistance through failed blackmailing tactics.
The power cut, closure of crossings, halt of the entry of humanitarian aid and fuel into Gaza, and the imposition of hunger constitute collective punishment and war crimes, which violate international humanitarian laws, he said.
Al-Rishq went on to say that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aims to undermine the Gaza ceasefire and intends to advance his agenda at the expense of the lives of Israeli prisoners.
The Hamas official also said that the resistance and the Palestinian people will not succumb to these pressures and will continue to resist until the liberation of Palestine and the triumph of the Palestinian nation.
A three-phase ceasefire came into effect on January 19, with each phase lasting 42 days. During these phases, Hamas and the Israeli regime were expected to negotiate indirectly on the implementation of the next phases. However, Netanyahu obstructed the initiation of the second phase, which was scheduled for February 3. As a result, the first phase concluded on March 1 without any agreement to enter the second phase.
