Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a public rally in Varanasi on Friday, launched a sharp, though indirect, attack on the opposition INDIA bloc, stating that its key constituents — the Congress and the Samajwadi Party — prioritise 'parivaar ka vikas' (development of family) over national interest.
"Those driven solely by the lure of power remain focused only on the growth of their own families, not the welfare of the nation," the Prime Minister said while inaugurating 44 development projects worth Rs 3,880 crore in the ancient city of Kashi.
Without naming any party, Modi said, "Their ideology is parivaar ka saath, parivaar ka vikas, while our vision remains sabka saath, sabka vikas (together with all, development for all). Our guiding principle has always been service to the nation".
Hailing the transformation of Varanasi over the past decade, PM Modi said the city — his parliamentary constituency — has moved beyond its traditional image of spiritual antiquity to become a beacon of modern urban progress.
"Today, I've had the fortune of visiting Sankatmochan Maharaj's Kashi, just ahead of Hanuman Jayanti. The people of Varanasi are not just celebrating a festival, but also the festival of development," the Prime Minister said.
Referring to key infrastructure improvements, he cited the newly built flyovers and ring roads that have eased congestion. "Ten years ago, traffic jams were a daily ordeal. Now, people can move across the city swiftly. Reaching places like Ghazipur or Jaunpur used to take hours — today, the journey is quick and seamless, he added.
Highlighting the impact of welfare schemes, the Prime Minister spoke of the Ayushman Bharat health initiative. "The people of Uttar Pradesh, including Kashi, are benefiting from free treatment under Ayushman Bharat. It has saved families lakhs of rupees. Our government has taken on the responsibility of medical expenses, especially for the elderly, whose treatments are now covered entirely. There’s no need to go door to door for help anymore".
"Don't worry about money for treatment, the government will pay for it," he assured.
