Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the need for reforms in the Waqf law was being felt for decades, but the issue was ignored due to vote-bank politics.
Addressing a media conclave, the PM said, “Now, amendments (cleared recently by Parliament) have been made, which will truly help poor Muslims.”
Without taking names, Modi targeted the previous Congress-led UPA regime for its “policy paralysis”. He alleged that the UPA government displayed indecisiveness and lack of political will even on important issues.
The PM said the NDA government always toed the “nation first” policy and had taken several tough decisions in its over 10 years of rule. “To take big decisions and achieve goals, it is important we put the country's interests on top.... For decades, the thought process was opposite and the country suffered a lot,” he said.
