Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip have killed at least 60 Palestinians in the last 24 hours, according to medical sources.
The Israeli strikes targeted multiple areas, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the Strip.
In Gaza City, three medics were killed, and two Palestinians died in an airstrike on the Shujayea neighborhood, with several others wounded. Near the Nabulsi junction on al-Rashid/al-Sahili Street, Israeli forces struck an area close to al-Shifa Hospital, causing additional injuries. Shelling in the as-Saftawi area, north of the city, also resulted in casualties.
In southern Gaza, 13 aid seekers were killed near an Israel- and US-backed aid distribution site in the Shakoush and al-Alam areas of Rafah, with three more deaths reported in a separate airstrike nearby.
Since the onset of the genocidal war, Israel has killed an estimated 54,927 people in Gaza, though health authorities suggest the true toll is likely higher. Most victims are women, children, and the elderly.
Death toll from Israeli attacks on journalists in Gaza rises to 227
Another journalist, named Moamen Mohammed Abu Al-Auf, was killed in an Israeli attack on Gaza City on Monday.
The Government Media Office in Gaza said in a statement that Abu Al-Auf worked as a photojournalist with several media outlets.
His killing has taken the number of journalists killed since Israel launched its war on Gaza to 227, the statement added.
The office also “condemned in the strongest terms the systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation.”
UNRWA calls for urgent, safe aid delivery
Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has raised alarms over the dire conditions faced by thousands of displaced families in Gaza, who are cut off from humanitarian aid.
For over three months, Israeli authorities have blocked the delivery of safe and sufficient aid, UNRWA reported. “We are not asking for the impossible. Allow us to do our work: assist people in need and preserve their dignity,” the agency stated.
Israel has banned UNRWA and other international aid organizations from operating in Gaza, halting supplies of food, water, and medical aid. The Israel- and US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation has been permitted to operate, but concerns persist about the politicization of aid distribution.
Hamas has warned Israel against interfering with the Madleen ship, holding the regime responsible for the safety of activists on board.
UN agencies and aid groups have cautioned that Gaza faces a looming famine without increased aid access.
Israeli restrictions, coupled with looting and a breakdown of order, have made aid delivery to Gaza’s 2 million residents nearly impossible.
UNRWA reported on X in April that no aid has entered Gaza since Israel imposed a total ban on deliveries on March 2. The agency warns that the lack of food, clean water, shelter, and medical care threatens the survival of nearly 2 million displaced Palestinians.
