Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference with his Jordanian counterpart in Moscow: “We are truly concerned about the situation in Gaza and the West Bank and the humanitarian crisis following the October 7 attacks.”
Lavrov emphasized that establishing an autonomous Palestinian state is the only path to peace in the region. He added, “We are working on just solutions that will ensure stability in the Middle East.”
“All opportunities must be used to reduce tensions in Palestinian territories,” he stated.
The Russian foreign minister underscored that civilians in Gaza should not be punished for the October 7 attacks. He insisted that their humanitarian needs must be guaranteed.
Lavrov further questioned, “Why do European countries not recognize Palestine now and instead await a United Nations General Assembly session?” He criticized Europe’s lack of diplomacy both on Ukraine and Middle East crises.
Regarding developments in Syria, Lavrov noted that “Syria is going through difficult times,” adding that Russia seeks stability and respect for its territorial integrity.
