Akhilesh Yadav demands inclusion of caste in SIR in UP

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has demanded that the Election Commission of India (ECI) should make a provision for a separate column for the electorate to register their respective castes in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Uttar Pradesh.
“We demand that an additional column for caste be included in such a large exercise. This will help conduct a caste census and go a long way in formulating better policies and implementing welfare schemes. I hope the government will consider and implement our suggestion,” he said.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Akhilesh Yadav said, “All political parties will reach out to every household so that data could be collected by adding a column for caste. This could be a preliminary caste census which will pave the way for political and social development of PDA.”
However, he said it is unfortunate that there is no BLO in UP from the PDA community.
On the hike in the sugarcane prices by the Yogi government, he said that the prices of sugarcane should be increased to a level that would make farmers happy by offering profit for their produce. The government has increased prices slightly after much delay but a sugar mill in Bahraich fled with crores of rupees belonging to farmers.
The SP chief sarcastically remarked that the government published an advertisement regarding sugarcane prices and payments in an English newspaper. “How many farmers will be able to read this information in English?”
Referring to the incident involving Akhilesh Dubey of Kanpur, he said corruption under the BJP government has never been as rampant. “The government is afraid of arresting Akhilesh Dubey as it can lead to dismissal of the government,” he said.
Earlier, Akhilesh Yadav, along with other SP leaders, paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Acharya Narendra Dev on their birth anniversary. On the occasion, the former chief minister announced that when the SP government comes to power in 2027 , education and technology based universities will be set up in the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
