Miller, a senior aide to Donald Trump, has asserted that Venezuela‘s oil rightfully belongs to the United States.
Miller, serving as the Deputy Assistant to the President, made this claim while attempting to justify it by alleging that the nationalization of the Venezuelan oil industry in South America constituted a form of ‘theft’.
This position from Miller further intensifies doubts about the Trump administration’s claims that drug trafficking is the primary source of tension with Venezuela.
In a social media post, Miller stated that the ‘sweat, genius, and labor of Americans created Venezuela’s oil industry’. He went on to say that the ‘brutal dispossession of it was the largest single theft of American wealth and assets on record’. He also claimed that these ‘looted assets’ were then used to ‘finance terrorism’ and send ‘murderers into our streets and dispatch hired guns and drug pushers’.
