As counting of votes continued for West Bengal Assembly elections, clashes were reported in several constituencies.
According to ANI, a scuffle erupted between the TMC and BJP workers at Barrackpore Rastraguru Surendranath counting centre in North 24 Parganas.
In Asansol as well, reports emerged of BJP workers vandalising TMC camps. The incident took place at the Asansol Engineering College counting centre. According to ANI, chairs and vehicles were vandalised during the clash, prompting security personnel to resort to a lathicharge to disperse those gathered.
Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate Commissioner Pranav Kumar said: “A political party camp was vandalised. The people responsible for the vandalism are being identified."
A similar clash was reported in Cooch Behar’s Dinhata which resulted in lathi charge by CRPF personnel.
On the situation in Cooch Behar, ANi quoted Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Jalpaiguri Anjali Singh saying, “The situation is peaceful with law and order. There is neither disruption nor anticipation of any disruption – the situation is peaceful. We have the Force ready in case of any situation emerging."
The second phase of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections has turned the spotlight on 38 constituencies widely regarded as strongholds of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), testing whether the ruling party can retain its grip over its traditional bastions amid a spirited challenge from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Polling in South Bengal and Kolkata, long seen as the political fortress of the TMC, is being viewed as a “litmus test" for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s party.
These 38 seats form part of a broader cluster of urban and semi-urban constituencies where the TMC has historically enjoyed organisational depth and voter loyalty.
