Fast-track NEET court faces first hurdle as CBI skips hearing

The Special Fast-Track Court set up to ensure swift action in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case encountered its first procedural setback on Monday after no lawyer appeared on behalf of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) during the hearing.
Special Judge Anu Grover Baliga, presiding over the newly constituted court, directed that the investigating agency be represented in the matter and adjourned the hearing on the bail applications of accused Dinesh Biwal and Vikas Biwal to August 3.
The court is the first designated fast-track court constituted under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, with the mandate to exclusively hear cases related to examination malpractice and connected offences.
The development comes weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation on the NEET paper leak controversy, said the government would establish special fast-track courts to ensure accountability, expedite trials, and bring those responsible for compromising public examinations to justice.
According to the CBI, Dinesh Biwal and Vikas Biwal are among 13 accused arrested in connection with the alleged leak of the NEET-UG 2026 question paper. The agency has alleged that the leaked paper was procured through a network of middlemen before being sold to candidates for large sums of money.
All the accused are currently in judicial custody until August 6.
The newly constituted court is expected to hear the bail pleas again on August 3, when the CBI is expected to place its response before the court.
