Darul Uloom Deoband asks students to avoid Kanwar Yatra routes

Darul Uloom Deoband has issued a safety advisory for its students during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra 2026, asking them to avoid unnecessary movement on Kanwar routes and crowded areas. The Islamic seminary says the steps are meant to ensure student safety and maintain discipline during one of north India's biggest annual pilgrimages. Students have also been asked to avoid the GT Road unless travel is absolutely necessary. The advisory includes instructions on railway travel, identity cards and entry into the campus after sunset.
The measures come as authorities across Uttar Pradesh continue to enforce traffic and security arrangements during the Kanwar Yatra.
SAFETY ADVISORY FOR STUDENTS
The written order was issued on Wednesday evening by hostel in-charge Maulana Ashraf Abbas.
According to the advisory, students should avoid unnecessary travel, especially on Kanwar routes and the GT Road. They have been asked to step out only if their journey is essential.
RULES FOR ESSENTIAL TRAVEL
The seminary has also laid down guidelines for students who must travel.
Those undertaking essential journeys have been instructed to use only reserved railway coaches. They must also carry their Darul Uloom-issued identity cards at all times.
ID CARD MANDATORY AFTER SUNSET
The advisory adds that no student will be allowed to enter the campus after sunset without producing the institution-issued identity card.
Darul Uloom Deoband said these measures are intended to keep students safe and ensure orderly movement during the Kanwar Yatra.
