Three booked in Shivamogga for waving Palestinian flag on Eid Milad

Authorities in Shivamogga district, Karnataka, have registered cases against three individuals for waving a Palestinian flag atop a cutout erected for Eid Milad celebrations in RML Nagar on August 24.
According to the First Information Report, the accused have been named as Nihal alias Bekku, Umar, and Abrahar. They allegedly climbed the structure, displayed the flag, and recorded the incident, which was later circulated on Instagram.
Police stated that such actions had the potential to incite communal tensions, promote hostility, and disrupt public order.
The trio has been charged under Sections 353(2), 196(1), and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with investigations ongoing.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi, also known as Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi or Mawlid, commemorates the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad and was observed nationwide on August 26.
Prior to the celebrations, Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti imposed restrictions from August 25 to 28, banning DJ music, colour paper blasting, and firecrackers during processions. Officials cited concerns that such activities could damage places of worship and cause inconvenience to senior citizens, the general public, and hospital patients.
These measures were taken based on recommendations by the Superintendent of Police and were enforced under Sections 35 and 36 of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963.
