Tehran: The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says its Aerospace Force has targeted facilities used for the maintenance, preparation and deployment of US F-35, F-16 and F-15 fighter jets at the Al-Azraq airbase in Jordan.
According to an IRGC statement issued early Wednesday, the attack was carried out with solid- and liquid-fueled ballistic missiles. It said the strike came in response to US attacks on Iranian oil tankers and commercial vessels.
The IRGC added that the targeted facilities, including fighter aircraft shelters, sustained heavy damage. It also said its forces in the Strait of Hormuz had maintained pressure on US forces and would continue operations until Washington’s aggression was halted.
US destroyers came under attack
In a separate statement issued shortly afterward, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force had also targeted two US Navy guided-missile destroyers, DDG-119 and DDG-53.
The statement said the destroyers, which are equipped with cruise missiles and Aegis combat systems, were struck by ballistic missiles during the same retaliatory operation. The IRGC said the attacks inflicted significant damage on the two warships.
The IRGC warned the United States against further miscalculations, while declaring that Iran’s Armed Forces remained determined to respond to US military actions.
